Tucked amid the heart of the cluster of cottages, Kalksteen Cottage overlooks a picturesque chardonnay vineyard to the left. This intimate hideaway offers two ensuite bedrooms with showers only. One bedroom is air-conditioned for year-round comfort. Gather around the indoor or outdoor fireplace, or unwind in your private wood-fired hot tub as the sun dips below the vineyard rows.

The cottage’s compact kitchen and living area provide everything you need for relaxed self-catering. Kalksteen Cottage is TV-free, inviting you to slow down, savor the serenity, and fully appreciate your tranquil surroundings.

Activities

We invite you to share in the beauty of nature at Arendsig Wine Farm. Whether you prefer to enjoy nature in an active way or more leisurely, we have plenty of activities for you to enjoy. We aim to custom make experiences for you.

Arendsig is well suited for mountain biking. Bring your own bicycle and choose the route that suits your level of fitness. There are tracks that are suited for a family ride with younger children. For the more experienced rider, there are tracks that Lourens used as training ground for his participation in the Cape Epic 2018. All tracks start on Arendsig and proceed across a number of the neighbouring farms.

The Breede River cuts through the Arendsig Wine Farm. The river not only provides valuable irrigation water, but also good fun for casual fishermen. Bring your own fishing tackle and help us compile a list of fish that are living in the Breede River, by sending us photo’s of your catch. Please note that swimming in the river is at own risk.

The river also provides rowing enthusiasts the opportunity to put their canoe in the river for a paddle.

Lourens and Lizelle developed walking trails to teach their children about the local flora. As guests at Arendsig, you are welcome to enjoy these walking trails and discover the unique plants, indigenous to the area. The distance is 5 kilometres and ideal for adults and children.

The view from the tennis court, at the Arendsig homestead, provides a bird’s eye view of the farm. The use of the tennis court can be booked in advance.

Arendsig is aptly named after the majestic Fish Eagles that keep on the farm, near the river. The Fish Eagles are not the only birds to make Arendsig their home. The following birds have been seen on the farm – click to view list.

Ensure that you book a private wine tasting with Lourens, during your stay at Arendsig. Learn about his passion for hand crafting wines, reflecting the terroir of the single vineyards. Witness the winemaking process in the cellar and taste the Single Vineyard Wines. You can enjoy a cheese platter on the verandah of the old cellar. These need to be pre-booked.

Time away from the busy life, means that you might not be in the mood to prepare your own meals. We can provide you with raw meat for the braai or prepared meals, ready for the eating. Picnic baskets, to be enjoyed next to the river, can be packed for your enjoyment. Please book these meals in advance to ensure availability.

Lazy River Days

Enjoy an exclusive day with a group of family or friends, next to the Breede River. We will provide you with raw meat, of your choice, side dishes, ice, wine, cutlery, crockery and wood for the fire. You can relax on the lawn under the trees or attempt fishing, canoeing or swimming (at own risk). Let us know your specific needs and we will quote accordingly.

Arendsig on Fire

Let us custom make an experience for your group. Join us for a personalized wine tasting with Lourens and share in his passion for the Arendsig Single Vineyard Wines. Relax on the lawn in the shade of the Paperbark Thorn trees next to the Breede River and observe how your meat and vegetables are being slow roasted.
